Motorhome road tax to double

From the news archive. This article describes the situation on its original publication date. Historical amounts, rules and service descriptions are not current personal advice.

Motorhome owners will pay more motor vehicle tax. They currently pay a quarter of the standard rate; from 2026, this will become half the standard rate. This is set out in the Tax Plan presented by the government on Budget Day 2023.

A lower rate applies to motorhomes because they are generally used only for holidays and weekends away. They are therefore on the road much less often than ordinary vans. Owners of classic cars receive a tax benefit for the same reason.
