Another insurance question?
Not every insurance question fits a familiar category. Explain your circumstances and what you want to protect, so we can first establish the subject and services required.
Start with the circumstances
Perhaps you have a new possession, a different activity or a policy you do not understand. Describe what is changing and the financial consequences you want to discuss. You do not need to choose a product name at first contact. A specific question helps direct the subject to the appropriate category, insurer or other specialist.
Understand unfamiliar cover
If you already have insurance, have the policy title and insurer's name to hand. Explain which provision raises questions. Product names do not fully describe cover. An answer requires the correct terms and any additional agreements. The general information on this website cannot confirm that an event is covered by a specific existing policy.
Distinguish personal and business activities
For some activities, the capacity in which you act matters. A hobby, volunteering, letting or work may raise different questions. Do not assume a personal policy covers every risk associated with an activity. Explain the context and people involved. RFD discusses which services and insurer fit your enquiry.
- What do you want to protect or understand?
- Is there an existing policy, and which terms apply to it?
- Is it personal use, work or another activity?
- Has damage already occurred, or is this a future decision?
A change, cancellation or new question
A change or cancellation can affect your cover and the period for which you are insured. Ask for an explanation before cancelling existing insurance solely on the basis of a new premium proposal. It must be clear who assesses a new application and when cover begins. A telephone conversation or website visit does not in itself confirm a new policy.
Agree the appropriate next step
Contact RFD with a brief description of your question. We discuss whether it falls within our services and the next step required. Where a question belongs with another party, that can be clarified first. We discuss the options, conditions, costs and timetable for your own circumstances.
If damage occurs, use the online claims portal. Do not share identity documents, medical records or a client file through a general message. This explanation is informative and does not replace personal insurance advice or confirmation of cover.
Frequently asked questions
Does RFD offer every kind of insurance?
This page does not confirm an unlimited range. Explain your question; RFD discusses whether and within which services it can be handled.
Do I need to know which insurance I am looking for already?
No. Describe the circumstances, change or financial consequences you have questions about. This is often a clearer starting point than a product name.
Can I have my existing policy explained?
You can discuss your question. Have the insurer, policy and accompanying terms to hand; the work to be performed is agreed in advance.
Where can I report a claim?
Go to Report a claim and use the existing external portal. A general email does not replace your insurance reporting instructions.
This is general information, not personal insurance advice or confirmation of insurance cover. What is suitable and covered depends on your circumstances and the policy terms. Read the disclaimer.
